The Footnote Rebellion

A graduate student writing his thesis on David Foster Wallace decided to add footnotes to his footnotes. Then footnotes to those footnotes. By page 50, the main text was a single sentence: 'See footnote 1.' His advisor returned the draft with one comment: 'Finally, someone who understands the assignment.'
